On September 11, 2021, our EIURS team came together to support a great cause, presented by Legacy of Hope. This organization, local to Philadelphia, aims to provide an emergency support network for families who are fighting cancer. Through their partnerships with hospitals and sponsors, they are able to lend support for bills, food, and help those who have exhausted all other resources. Their funding helps to expedite new cures and research for cancer.
Legacy of Hope holds an annual event in which participants walk or run up the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps for 24 hours to raise money. Our team sponsored a participant and friend, Erin Dilks, who ran and walked the steps continuously for a very impressive 24 hours. This year, with Erin’s persistence, Legacy of Hope was able to raise $105,000. Our underwriters, Jake Gibbons and Mike DiRocco, also participated in this inspiring event to support their friend and help in fundraising. This event involves 72 steps, made famous by a man rising to a challenge, Rocky. The original movie includes the famous steps that lead up to the Philadelphia art museum. |

Mike DiRocco says, “When we found out that Erin, who has participated in other EIURS charity events was doing the Art Museum Steps for Legacy of Hope, needed a sponsor, we thought it was a great event for EIURS to support and participate in. We could not run them for 24 hours, but we got a good workout in for a good cause!” Our team is always finding a way to get active and help the local community. Jake Gibbons comments, “Since I joined EIURS in 2016, we have been doing workout challenges as a team not only to stay fit, but to foster camaraderie amongst us. Erin came out to our very first workout challenge to show support for us, so it only made sense to go show support for her, especially to raise money for such a good charity; Legacy of Hope.” Gina Mancuso, Vice President of Legacy of Hope, provided this insight into the need met by the organization; “A mother in her early 30s, living in one of Philadelphia’s many neighborhoods marked by deep poverty, is losing her fight with metastatic cervical cancer. Too sick to work, and grieving the unexpected death of her young child, she is struggling to make ends meet for the two surviving children who live with her. The support of EIURS is enabling Legacy of Hope to quickly respond and provide what is needed for this family.” At EIURS, we are grateful to be fortunate enough to support others by participating in events like this. We truly believe in all that this organization does for families struggling with cancer and can’t wait to support this cause again next year. Learn more about their initiatives here. |
